Read John 6.1-15
Bonus Reading: Exodus 16.32-35; Mark 8.16-21; Ephesians 3.14-21
Introduction: People have various perspectives on leftovers. Some say, “waste not, want not.” Others might say that they are storing up treasure in heaven, instead of material treasures that can rust, decay, or lose their value! What about you? What are your thoughts on leftovers?
Information: What happens to the small provision offered to the crowd? What does Jesus ask the disciples to do at the end of the meal? Why do you think this detail is important to the story and to understanding the sign?
Introspection: So often we look around and think something along the lines of: “Behold all that my hands have wrought!” How does this story teach us to say something different? How should we understand our role and Jesus’ role for daily life based on the miracle we see here?
Impression: Again, hold out your empty hands to God. What does God say to you about your empty hands?
