Introduction: As believers we often talk about Jesus’ victory over death. Yet we pray desperately against the death of our loved ones. What do you think is a proper view of death both objectively and in the face of the loss of loved ones (and/or our own death)?
Information: Last week, we looked at Martha’s interaction with Jesus. What do we learn about Mary? What does she want Jesus to know about her grief?
Introspection: Apart from Jesus, death is unconquerable. Both Mary and Martha acknowledge that only Jesus could have saved Lazarus from death. What they don’t yet realize is that only Jesus can now save Lazarus from death. Why is it so important to believe that Jesus is the only victor over death? What would it mean for us to trust God’s timing and purpose for the death of our own loved ones?
Impression: We see from both Martha and Mary that we can come openly and honestly to Jesus with our emotion. What do you want Jesus to know today? What does Jesus say to you in response?
