Read: Daniel 11
Bonus Reading: 2 Samuel 1:13-27; Daniel 2.20-23; Acts 17.22-31
Introduction: If you could only choose one (and you had to choose one) would you choose wealth, fame, or power? Give reasons for your answer.
Information: The next ruler, introduced in verses 21-27, probably is Antiochus Epiphanes, who may also have been represented by the “little horn” in Daniel 7.8 and 8.9-14. What do we learn about the reign of Antiochus Ephiphanes from Daniel’s vision? What can God’s people expect when Antiochus becomes king? How will he interact with the “king of the south”? Regardless of the plots and battles, what will happen at the “appointed time”?
Introspection: Again, it isn’t as though God reveals to Daniel that things will be bad for short time and then the next ruler will be better. The next ruler seems like the worst one of the lot. How does it help God’s people to know that such a despicable leader is coming? How does knowing God limits the time and power of a ruler help you? How should God’s people live under the rulers that God has put in place today?
Impression: God wants to communicate promise and assurance through these visions. Ask God for promise and assurance for yourself today.
